Port Yuzhny is the most deep-water and youngest port enters a list of the first three leading ports of Ukraine (Illichivsk, Odessa, Yuzhny) and occupies one of the first places in the country on cargo turn-over.
The port is located on the north-west shore of the Black Sea in the non-freezing Maly Adzhalyk (Grigoryevsky) Liman, 30 km to the north-east from the Port of Odessa.

All kinds of loading and discharging, storage and auxiliary works are being performed at the port, there being handled all kinds of bulk and general cargoes carried by marine, railway and automobile transport.
Following cargoes are handled at the port:
- Chemical cargoes and fertilizers: bulk urea, ammonia, methanol, urea and ammonia solution, ammonium nitrate, complex fertilizer NPK, di-ammonium phosphate, rutile, magnesia, ammonium sulfate, phosphorites, potash (potassium chloride), etc.
- Bulk Cargoes: coal, iron ore pellets, clinker, different ores, pig iron, metallurgical coke, blast-furnace coke, bauxite, iron ore briquettes, ferrous alloys, grain, etc.
- General Cargoes: finished and semi-finished steel products – square billets, cold and hot rolled steel coils, wire rods, reinforcing steel, slabs, sheet steel in different kinds of package and etc.
A developed network of external and internal transport allows to form and operate all transshipment terminals independently from their location and form of privatization.

Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk is determined by its key position at the cross-roads of main transport routes between Europe and Asia, North and South, Central and Eastern industrially developed regions of Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and the shipping routes running across the Mediterranean Sea into the Atlantic and Indian oceans.
All international transport corridors, having outlets to the Black sea, pass via the port of Illichivsk. The port has international relationships with almost 100 countries of the world located on all continents.
Port facilities, high level of professional skills and developed infrastructure allow to provide port services at the most modern level. At present there are no types of activities that Illichivsk port hasn’t mastered yet.
The port provides the following services: handling, storage and preparation of different types of cargo, transport-forwarding services, navigational assistance, towage, maintenance and repair of fleet, transportation of containers by road hinterland and some other services.
The port of Illichivsk is situated on the North coast of the Black Sea and it's position is defined by the bearings: Latitude - 46°19' North, Longitude - 30°41' East.
The port location in the deep water estuary Sukhoy Liman, connected to the sea by an approach channel, acts as a natural protection of port water area from waves and currents and favors round-the-year navigation.
Port water area totals 11,900.85 hectares: inner water area amounts to 365.85 ha, outer roads water area amounts to 11,535 ha.
Navigable depths in outer roadstead are up to 21m, in approach channel — 14 m, in port water area — 7.5 - 13m.
Port has facilities enabling to handle up to 28,5 million tonnes of cargo annually.
There are 29 berths with total quay line of 6000 m.
The entrance of cargo trains into the port territory is effected through four railway tracks.
All port berths are equipped with railway tracks up to 10 lines running into the territory, what gives the possibility to achieve wagon turnover up to 1300 wagons a day.
Port facilities can provide simultaneous storage of 1.5 million tons of cargo.
Total open storage area – 580,600 sq. m; warehouse area – 34,000 sq. m.
Storage facilities of Fuel Terminal and Food Liquid Cargo Handling Complex can store 135,000 t of liquid cargoes simultaneously. Silo towers of Grain Handling Complex provide simultaneous storage of 190,000 t of grain.
The port consists of 6 cargo handling terminals. Besides multipurpose berths specialized complexes on handling containers, grain, oil products, vegetable oils, fertilizers in bulk and sulphur, liquefied gas and also Multimodal Complex for handling cargoes in railway wagons and trucks transported by ferries and ro-ro vessels are located in the port area.
Unique technologies on handling heavyweight and oversized cargoes of 300 t and more with use of floating cranes are developed by specialists of the port.
Terminal facilities, highly qualified personnel and developed infrastructure make it possible to provide a wide range of high quality services for the clients of the port.
Construction of new cargo handling complexes, reconstruction of some berths, upgrading of existing equipment and purchase of new cargo handling equipment, purchase of crafts for port fleet, construction and reconstruction of industrial and auxiliary objects are provided by the general plan for Port development.
It is planned to execute reconstruction of berth line of 2240 m long and to construct 2335 m of new berths additionally.
